I read an article on Cnn.com about a school for young black men in Chicago. It really reminded me of what I really want to do in my life: Teach. Not just rich white kids with all the advantages at their fingertips, but urban kids. Kids who have seen many more horrible things by the time they enter the 4th grade than I probably (hopefully) will see in my entire life.
I went to a private school that taught me how to learn and grow from other people. The school was great, but the people there were all the same...white, upper middle class, drove mercades, audis, and the ever popular honda civics. Everyone either got or got to use a car when they turned 16. They were all just like me.
I got bored.
I made other friends, friends that usually didn't end up graduating but hopefully went on to get their GEDs. These friends taught me a lot about a life that many many people lead. I want to be able to change the path of a kid's life. To be able to show them there is more outside the hood. A lot more.
